Jorge Masvidal has provided some updates on his eye injury that he sustained during his fight with bitter rival Colby Covington

It has almost been a week since UFC 272, but the repercussions of the fight are still being discussed strongly by the MMA community. The fight in itself has its moments of controversy when Colby Covington seemed to have eye poked Jorge Masvidal in the initial rounds, and even landed an accidental low blow.

Herb Dean even stopped the fight briefly after the low blow and gave out a strong warning to ‘Chaos’. Masvidal expressed his disappointment with the referee’s officiating during the post-fight press conference but eventually admitted that his rival was the better man that evening.

“I’ve had a couple of mishaps with Herb Dean I just don’t get why he didn’t fix the action. He threw a punch, missed, and then immediately jabbed me in the eyeball. I’m not going to take anything from [Covington] winning the fight because that was just one sequence.” said Masvidal.

The Miami native recently posted a picture on Twitter, providing an update on the injury captioning,

‘ Almost took eyes out but all good u cheating fuck see u soon’

Jorge Masvidal says he is “far from over” after loss against Colby Covington at UFC 272

Jorge Masvidal has provided some positive news to his fans in the aftermath of his UFC 272 loss to bitter rival, Colby Covington. Although the bout was predominantly a one-sided affair, Masvidal did have one of the biggest moments in the fight.

Masvidal had some initial success with his outside kicks, but Covington’s relentless pressure proved too much for the Miami native. He defended takedowns effectively at times, but Colby’s pedigree and wrestling just proved too much for him. Even in positions where Masvidal looked like he had the upper hand, Colby effortlessly sprawled and established back control for the most part of the fight.

This loss in particular puts Masvidal between a rock and a hard place. ‘Gamebred’ finds himself in a pickle, having signed a lucrative new deal with the UFC, but also losing three fights in a row for the first time in his career. UFC president Dana White illuminated this topic, and expressed that even he doesn’t know what’s next for Masvidal.

Jorge however has his spirits high, and looks to bounce back like he has done so many times in his career, that has spanned two decades now. He posted a picture of him cracking Colby with the biggest shot in the fight, captioning, ‘Far from over. I will be back’
