Former champ and UFC commentator Daniel Cormier went back and forth with top-ranked UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje

Daniel Cormier was having a Twitter war with several people while in the commentary booth at UFC 267.

The former heavyweight champ had a nasty spat with ‘The Highlight’ Justin Gaethje, after the latter took offence to DC bringing up his name during the post-fight interview with Islam Makhachev.

Cormier who has a liking towards the members of AKA, was quite engrossed listening to Makhachev speak.

Although, DC was just doing his job, he brought up Gaethje’s name and asked Makhachev why he deserved the title shot over the number 2 ranked LW contender.

With DC’s mention not sitting well with Gaethje, ‘The Highlight’ wrote:

“Suck it harder DC.”

A calm Cormier replied:

“I can’t fight you, but Islam can my guy. You just go and do what you do next week. You may be safe I’m not sure champ. @Justin_Gaethje.”

Justin Gaethje unhappy with Daniel Cormier bringing his name up

Gaethje then replied:

“You brought my name up. It wasn’t going to come out of anybody’s mouth.”

Cormier, seeing nothing wrong in his actions, asked Gaethje to calm down:

“I literally asked why he should get title shot over you? Because he has to convince he deserves to jump you. Hell I thought you should have been in the fight with Charles. Have said it publicly. Calm down highlight , you’re my favorite fighter.”

Gaethje, who last fought Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2020, will return to action next weekend at UFC 268. He will take on Michael Chandler in a high-profile lightweight bout.
