Francis Ngannou vs Derrick Lewis might be happening this year after all

With Jon Jones momentarily out of the heavyweight equation, the UFC will be going ahead with Francis Ngannou vs Derrick Lewis.

Newly-crowned heavyweight champion Ngannou will be running it back with the ‘Black Beast’ soon. However – when the fight would be taking place was largely unknown.

UFC President Dana White recently shed some light upon when the super-clash would be taking place.

At the UFC Fight Night 188 post-fight show with Heidi Androl, White revealed that Ngannou vs Lewis might headline UFC 265.

White divulged the same when asked by Androl why he was mum about UFC 265’s main event, and if he was saving it for “Francis”:

“Perhaps. We’re working on somethings right now. And yes, that’s one of the fights we are working on.”

Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis fought in one of the most boring contests

Lewis has a win over Ngannou! The pair met at UFC 226, and never had people seen such a snooze-fest in a long time.

The fight was devoid of action, with both the fighters hesitant to throw any punches or strikes. Lewis eventually won the fight via. unanimous decision.

However, the career paths of both have been very different after that. Lewis went on to beat Alexander Volkov at UFC 229, and then challenged for the heavyweight title, against Daniel Cormier at UFC 230. DC beat Lewis via. submission.

Lewis then suffered another loss at the hands of Junior dos Santos. It was after this that the ‘Black Beast’ started recovering. He has been on a four-fight unbeaten streak since then, and is all set to face the ‘Predator’.

After his loss to Lewis, Ngannou has been on a five-fight win streak, including his title win against Stipe Miocic at UFC 260. The MMA world would be hoping that Lewis and Ngannou would put on a show this time.
