Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov could yet happen for the UFC Lightweight title

The UFC world went into overdrive when Khabib Nurmagomedov, apparently, said that the Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor rematch should be for his title.

Khabib retired after defeating Justin Gaethje but Dana White hasn’t stripped the Russian of his title.

White was speaking to the Schmo and clarified that Khabib’s comments were lost in translation. The UFC boss claimed that Khabib had said that the winner of Poirier vs McGregor should be the contender for the Lightweight gold.

White added that he would be meeting with Khabib next week in Abu Dhabi and speak about his future. However, the president confirmed that he would want a huge fight for the Lightweight title:

“If Conor wins the fight against Poirier, you do Conor vs Khabib, again.”

Problems along the way

Khabib defeated McGregor a couple of years back and a rematch would be great. However, White also listed out the problems standing in the way to set this fight up:

“Khabib vs McGregor. It is a big fight. It is the rematch to make but there are a lot of ifs.

“If Khabib still wants to fight, if Conor beats Poirier and if I can get Khabib to accept that fight.

“Maybe he wants to fight somebody else, he doesn’t want to fight Conor, we will see.”

It is to be seen what happens when Poirier and McGregor meet. Further, Khabib is 29-0 and he might only come out of retirement for a super fight against the legendary GSP.

Herb Dean is considered as the best MMA and UFC referee

The talk of Khabib vs McGregor would also be thrown out of the window if Poirier gets the better of the Irishman.

McGregor had beaten Poirier the first time the pair met, but things could be different in their much anticipated rematch.
