Cody Garbrandt is keen on winning the UFC Flyweight title from Deiveson Figueiredo

The war of words between Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo doesn’t seem to be dying down one bit.

Garbrandt, a former UFC Bantamweight champion, has challenged Figueiredo for a title fight. However, Figueiredo fights in Flyweight division and recent defeated Joseph Benavidez to win the title.

The bout was one-sided as Figueiredo won the clash in the first round, but he failed to make weight during their first fight.

Figueiredo still won that fight and was a worthy winner in the next one, but he has been avoiding call-outs by Garbrandt.

The Brazilian again spoke about other Flyweights getting the opportunity to face him, but Garbrandt wasn’t listening.

He called out Figueiredo for missing weight the first time and even called him a “fat a**”:

A classic in the making?

Figueiredo does have some logic in his statement asking other Flyweights to get a chance over Garbrandt. The American has been a Bantamweight star for a while and recently defeated Raphael Assuncao with an impressive knockout.

However, moving to another weight division and getting a title shot early isn’t right. Garbrandt should get one fight in the Flyweight division first and if he wins, Figueiredo is all his.

While it is to be seen if this fight does take place, there are many who want to see the pair duke it out.

Ali Abdelaziz, one of the biggest MMA agents and managers in the world, was open to seeing the pair fight.

It will be interesting to see if this clash is set up by the UFC. Figueiredo is 19-1 in his MMA career and has been on a tear since losing to Jussier Formiga in 2019.
