Uncle Chael feels the clash of the heavyweights – Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou wouldn’t be the biggest fight of 2021.

Francis Ngannou became the heavyweight champion after he steamrolled Stipe Miocic in a rematch at UFC 260. The immediate aftermath got the whole MMA community talking about the Cameroonian taking on heavyweight newcomer Jon Jones next.

Despite an ongoing war of words between UFC President Dana White and Jones, the fight is expected to go down sometime this year.

Though one might feel that this would undoubtedly be the biggest fight of the year, a new high-voltage clash seems to be brewing – Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington 2.

No sooner did Usman knock out Jorge Masvidal at the recently concluded UFC 261, than Covington called out Usman to run their UFC 245 fight back. This rematch seems to be equally as lip-smacking as the Jones vs Ngannou one.

Recently, Chael Sonnen, in his YouTube channel highlighted why he felt that the Jones vs Ngannou fight isn’t going to be the biggest fight of the year 2021.

He addressed Ariel Helwani who had told him that Ngannou vs Jones would undoubtedly be the best fight of the year 2021.

Sonnen then justified his claim saying that Jones vs Ngannou would be the biggest fight only from a size and anticipation point of view. And then, went on to reason out why he felt Covington vs Usman would be the biggest.

Sonnen said:

“Jones vs Ngannou would sell out an arena for sure…Covington vs Usman would do the same…The biggest fight of 2021 will be Covington and Usman. It was the single greatest welterweight fight of all time [UFC 245]…These guys are oil and water, they just can’t be around each other. And, Colby is the only guy that’s got the imagination of the world that he could actually beat Usman.”

Francis Ngannou feels a fight with Jon Jones will happen soon

A huge cloud of uncertainty has been looming over the Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou fight.

It all began when Jones began charging an exorbitant amount for fighting Ngannou, and went on an online battle with UFC President Dana White.

An irate Dana White recently revealed in Bill Simmons’ podcast that he was looking to book Derrick Lewis vs Ngannou next.

However, Ngannou spoke in an interview with BT Sport after UFC 261, divulging that he was confident that a fight with Jones will take place soon. And, he further added that a fight of such intensity will take time to get done.
