The UFC decided to release Anderson Silva after his last loss to Uriah Hall

The UFC took the decision to release Anderson Silva after a lot was said by Dana White in the past.

White had suggested that Silva’s fight against Uriah Hall could be his last for the promotion but the Spider didn’t seem to believe that.

Silva claimed that he still had something to give to the world of MMA but he was soundly defeated by Hall.

The former UFC Middleweight Champion then sat in the Octagon for a while and soaked in the atmosphere before leaving. White also spoke after the fight and believed that this should have been Silva’s last fight in the promotion.

The 45-year-old might have won just one of his last nine fights. However, he leaves the UFC with several records that might never be broken.

Silva signing for Bellator?

There are a few quality promotions apart from the UFC and one of them is Bellator. Bellator does have a few former UFC stars while Michael Chandler recently switched promotions too.

Ariel Helwani asked Bellator’s Scott Coker about the possibility of Silva joining the promotion, however, that was turned down with a respectable answer:

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Anderson Silva, one of my favorite fighters & one of the greatest of all time, but I’m happy with our roster & the direction Bellator is heading.”

Silva might still be able to perform but his record over the past couple of years doesn’t make for good reading.

It will be interesting to see what is next for the Spider but fighting more only hurts his legacy. Top stars know when is the best time to retire and hopefully, Silva makes the right call regarding all this.

The 45-year-old was is one reason why MMA and UFC grew over the years and he has had some of the best fights in the history of the sport.
