“A caring person”, “Rumble will be missed” – Tributes pour in from the MMA Community as Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson passes away at 38

The MMA Community expressed their condolences following the death of UFC veteran Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson

Anthony Johnson breathed his last on the 13th of November, 2022. He was 38. The former UFC title contender, popularly known as ‘Rumble’, for his one-punch knockout power, failed to recover from a long-term illness.

It recently came to light that, Johnson had been suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis which resulted in organ failure.

Johnson competed in the UFC from 2007-2012, and then once again from 2014-2017. ‘Rumble’ fought across multiple weight divisions throughout the course of his career.

Having announced his retirement in 2017, Johnson once again made a comeback in May 2021 at Bellator 258. He earned a stunning KO win, signalling his arrival.

However, illness caught up with him once again, leaving his career at a crossroads.

“Rest Easy my brother” – Daniel Cormier, Michael Bisping and others pay tribute to Anthony Johnson

Tributes poured in following the death of Anthony Johnson. Among the notable ones were that of Daniel Cormier and Gilbert Burns’.

Former rival Cormier, wrote: “Rest Easy my brother. For a guy who struck fear in so many peoples heart Anthony Johnson was a caring person. From random text to check ins during loss. What a person he was, Rumble will be missed. Sometimes life doesn’t seem fair. Horrible news #RIP #Rumblesquad @Anthony_Rumble

Burns shared a picture of himself with Johnson during training with the caption: “RIP

Who would have thought a mountain of a man like Anthony Johnson would be taken away so young? RIP Rumble!
