MMA legend Alistair Overeem has retirement on his mind and seems set to hang up the gloves soon
Alistair Overeem might be one of the greatest MMA athletes of all-time and the Dutch star confirmed his retirement plans on social media.
Overeem has won titles in most of the top promotions across the world, however, he has never held UFC gold.

The 40-year-old had one shot against Stipe Miocic at UFC 203 but lost that battle. He has never fought for the title since and has always seemed to be on the cusp of a title shot before losing a fight.
Overeem posted on Twitter that he was planning to retire after a couple of fights. The Dutchman claimed he was improving even at 40 and wanted a shot at the belt to finish his mission:
I’m still improving: even at 40 I think you can clearly see that in my fights. I’m still on a learning curve. But I have to be realistic. I’m going to have a couple more fights, then I’m going to hang up the gloves. If I win the belt, then the mission is completed #onefinalrun pic.twitter.com/gxQrZrrhhc

More threats for Miocic
Overeem is ranked #5 in the Heavyweight division and last defeated Augusto Sakai in a thrilling five-round contest.
The Dutchman is just one of several UFC stars keen on having a crack at Miocic next. Francis Ngannou has been waiting for his chance ever since Miocic defeated Daniel Cormier in their trilogy.

Jon Jones also vacated his UFC Light Heavyweight title and moved up a division to face Miocic. So far, the UFC haven’t confirmed who is Miocic’s next challenger and it will be interesting to see when that is done.
Overeem has an incredible 66 professional MMA bouts under his belt and has several records to his name. He might not have a UFC title to his name but another win in his next fight could open the doors for a shot at the gold.
