Two players Aston Villa must sell to avoid a breach of FFP rules

Heavy-spending Aston Villa could become the first Premier League club to breach FFP rules, according to the Dailymail.

Aston Villa’s sale of Villa Park is to be probed by the Premier League to check whether it breached financial fair play regulations. In the season of their Championship promotion, the club narrowly avoided a breach of EFL’s profit and sustainability rules after the sale of Villa Park to owners Nasser Sawiris and Wes Edens.

They may have to raise millions in player sales or wage savings before the summer to make sure they meet the Premier League’s spending limits.

Here are the 2 players Aston Villa must offload to meet FFP rules.

Jack Grealish

Although he captains the team, Jack Grealish would be the obvious player to sell if the club need to make quick cash. The 24-year-old could command a high fee and his display against Manchester United recently is capable of catching the eye of a number of top teams.

With Villa not filling their accounts until May 31st, the Birmingham side may not be forced to sell in January, although a quick sale will be needed at the end of the campaign if they need to balance their books.

Grealish was relegated from the top division of English football in 2016 with his boyhood club, leaving the burning spotlight of the Premier League. After three years in the Championship where he bulked up and matured, Grealish, with his slicked-back hair and pulled down socks, guided his beloved Villa back to the promised land of top-flight football via the play-offs.

He’s not quite a Jorginho or Fabinho but is still capable of controlling the speed and direction of the football his team plays.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been linked with a move for Grealish. Selling a player like Grealish would not be ideal to Villa’s plans of staying up in the league but he is the go-to option if the club are in need of fast cash.

John McGinn

Scottish midfielder McGinn has become one of Aston Villa’s most important players in his 18 months at the club and was crucial in their return to the Premier League the last term, winning the Championship playoffs.

In the top-flight, the 25-year-old has three goals and two assists in 17 appearances. McGinn has proven to be a bargain buy for the Villans since a switch from Hibernian in the summer of 2018. McGinn is just a few months into the five-year contract he signed before the new campaign.

Manchester United were told by former boss Sir Alex Ferguson to sign John Mcginn, according to Metro.

McGinn has been vital to Villa’s success and losing a player of his calibre will surely dent Villa’s hopes of staying up in the English top-tier.
