Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy is an anime adaptation of Kei Azumi’s Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu light novel series published by AlphaPolis since 2013. Kotora Kino published its manga adaptation and on July 7 2021 the anime premiered; fans eagerly anticipate a Season 2.

Tsukimichi-Moonlit Fantasy was an unexpected hit of 2021 and won everyone over with its vibrant world and refreshing storytelling. A welcome addition to an already over-saturated genre (Isekai), this anime has amassed a solid fan base since debuting. Both critically and commercially successful, it was nominated for several awards during its initial run.

Cast

After an impressive debut season of Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy that earned critical acclaim, fans eagerly anticipate its second outing. Unfortunately, animation studio C2C has remained silent regarding its return – as their previous series, Wandering Witch, took approximately one year from when its announcement in October 2019 to reach audiences – so Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy may follow a similar path before reaching audiences.

The anime adaptation is based on Kei Azumi’s Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchou light novel published by AlphaPolis in 2013. C2C made an adaptation and Shinji Ishihira served as director; its premiere season aired from July to September 2021 and could be found on Crunchyroll.

What lies ahead in season four is currently unknown, though it seems likely that Makoto will return to his original world and perhaps Tomoe and Mio will join him, having first appeared as flashbacks at the end of episode 12.

Natsuki Hanae returns as the voice actor for Makoto Misumi from Demon Slayer anime series, while other notable voices such as Akari Kitou as immortal dragon Tomoe and Ayane Sakura as Mio are also featured. Both voice actors have made multiple other anime appearances over time.

Plot

Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy is an animated series that chronicles the journey of an ordinary Japanese hero who finds themselves transported into an entertaining fantasy realm, only for their summoning goddess to strip them of their hero status and exile them back into the wastelands for not meeting her beauty standards.

The inaugural season of this anime ran from July to September 2021 and was an enormously popular viewing experience among fans. Based on Kei Azumi’s light novel series and Mitsuaki Matsumoto’s illustrations, C2C Studio developed it and broadcast it via TV Asahi.

Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy will likely return for a second season, although when its episodes will air is yet unknown. Production delays were previously experienced; further delays may ensue this time around.

Fans are hopeful that Makoto’s original world will become clearer during season 2. However, its creators could choose to save that reveal for an upcoming anime movie or season.

Natsuki Hanae will most likely return as Makoto Misumi for Season 3, Ayane Sakura as Tomoe and Akari Kito as Mio are all expected to recur as cast members, along with original music and character designs that should also remain.

Where to Watch

Fans have eagerly been anticipating news of a sequel since Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy Season One ended last September. Creators have confirmed their work on Season 2, but no official release date has been set. Studio C2C has switched over to J.C Staff which may create some anxiety among viewers; however, core staff from Season One will return for Season 2.

Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy stands out among Isekai anime by taking an unconventional approach by depicting how an ordinary man can prevail against gods and monsters in a fantasy-infused world. You can stream it now on Crunchyroll and AnimePLUS; Blu-ray/DVD releases will follow later this year in Japan.

Makoto Misumi finds himself summoned into an extraordinary fantasy world by a goddess, where his initial hope is to become a hero, only to find that his abilities are limited; nonetheless, he continues to outperform everyone else in this new reality.

The series has been renewed for a second season that will air in 2024, featuring many of its original cast members as they return for production to start. Unfortunately, Studio C2C may be busy producing other anime series before production of its sequel starts up again.

Conclusion

Fans of Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy can rejoice as Season 2 is set to bring even more excitement to the unconventional Isekai series, with additional episodes and a confirmed Winter 2024 release, making it a highly anticipated anime sequel!
