On November 7, 2016, he agreed to join the Oregon Ducks. Before his freshman season, he had established himself as one of their top prospects, and he maintained that status throughout his college career.

On December 8, Brown had 12 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Colorado State University, his first double-double of the season. Three days later, in a win over Texas Southern University, he had a season-high 12 rebounds to go along with his 10 points.
