Tottenham Opinion: Why Spurs should go all out to sign Giovani Lo Celso?

According to a report from Calciomercato, Tottenham are one of the host of European clubs interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who is currently playing on loan at Real Betis.

The Argentine, 23, has enjoyed a fantastic season with Real Betis, managing eight goals and two assists in 27 La Liga games. His performances have caught the eye of Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan as well but the report adds that Real Betis have an option to buy him in the summer.

Giovani Lo Celso

Betis would be willing to get Giovani Lo Celso’s signature at the end of the season and immediately sell him to make a quick profit. Knowing the midfield ace has already got a lot of suitors, Tottenham must do everything possible to acquire his services in the summer.

Tottenham appear to have found their mojo again and put relegated Huddersfield Town to sword on Saturday at their new stadium to go third in the Premier League table. Champions League football next season will be of huge importance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in order to attract top European talents.

After failing to sign a single player in the last two transfer windows, Tottenham are expected to make additions when the transfer market re-opens in a few months’ time. One area that needs reinforcements is the midfield and Pochettino would be wise to go for Lo Celso, who has been one of the best midfielders in the La Liga this season.

Lo Celso is an attacking midfielder by trade but he has flourished in a central midfield role under Quique Setien at Betis, bagging 14 goals and four assists across all competitions. It’s truly a remarkable return for a player who has chiefly played as a central midfielder this season.

An excellent passer of the ball, the 23-year-old’s willingness to make himself available for a pass is exceptional and his positional awareness and movement is highly commendable. He knows to pick up pockets of spaces where he can receive the ball and set up his teammate with an incisive pass. Lo Celso is technically sound and has an incredible awareness of who is around him.

The Argentina international has a brilliant eye for a pass and his creativity coupled with his composure in front of goal would make him an asset for a team like Tottenham. Furthermore, he will be an instant upgrade on Mousa Dembele, who left Tottenham for China in the January transfer window.

Verdict

Lo Celso still has room for improvement but his performances with Betis this season are enough evidence to prove that he has a massive future ahead of him. At 23, the Argentinean certainly has his best years ahead of him and under a manager like Mauricio Pochettino, he could unlock his true potential.
