Why Newcastle United should make Danny Rose’s transfer from Tottenham permanent
As per a report from The Northern Echo, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to offload Danny Rose on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window with Newcastle United interested.
Having started out at the Leeds United academy, Rose made the switch to Tottenham’s youth setup in 2007. The left-back made his first-team debut in 2009 before going on loan to Watford, Peterborough United, Bristol City and Sunderland.
Since 2013, Rose became a regular member of the Tottenham first-team and established himself as one of the best full-backs in England, featuring twice in the PFA Team of the Year. Till date, the 29-year-old has made 214 appearances for the Lilywhites.
However, Rose lost his place in the first-team setup to Ben Davies in recent times and was allowed to join Newcastle United on loan in the January transfer window. (h/t BBC Sport)
Newcastle have had a difficult 2019/20 season. The Magpies had been dawdling towards the wrong end of the table, but have made a recovery to push themselves away from the danger zone. As of now, Steve Bruce’s side are 13th in the Premier League, eight points above the relegation zone.
Heading into the next season, it is the attacking department where Newcastle should look to strengthen, given that they have scored only 25 goals in their 29 Premier League fixtures this season.
But, the left-back department should also be a priority for Steve Bruce & co. ahead of the next season.
Paul Dummett had been mostly used as a centre-back before he suffered a season-ending injury. Jetro Willems had been Newcastle’s primary option at left-back, but the Dutchman has suffered an ACL injury and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
This has forced Bruce to use winger Matt Ritchie as a makeshift left-back to mixed success. So, it becomes imperative that Newcastle should look to reinforce the left-back slot before next season. And signing Danny Rose on a permanent basis from Tottenham would achieve just that for the Tynesiders.
The 29-year-old, who has featured five times since making the loan switch in January, has plenty of experience in the Premier League and is a proven performer at the international stage as well, with 29 caps for the England national team.
Signing him would most certainly add the much-required depth to the Newcastle squad, while boosting the competition for places as well.
