Why Taylor Booth will be a good fit at Tottenham

According to Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Bayern Munich teenager Taylor Booth.

The young American had impressed manager Jose Mourinho’s staff after he helped Bayern Munich’s under-19 side thrash Tottenham 3-0 to knock them out of the UEFA Youth League. 19-year-old Booth was arguably one of Bayern’s best players on the pitch that day, setting up two assists from pinpoint set-pieces. Booth was acquired by Bayern in January 2019 from Real Salt Lake and signed a contract until 2022. However, the youngster is yet to feature for the senior side and is seen as a potential future prospect.

He has featured in 11 of Bayern’s 20 matches in the U-19 Bundesliga 2019-20 season, after missing out a few initial matches due to an injury.

However, having appeared in 11 of their last 12 youth league outings, there is no questioning the teenager’s significance within the side. Booth has also contributed to the U-19 side with five assists to his name, giving a clear indication of the talent that he is.

Booth can offer Tottenham more options in the middle

Meanwhile, Mourinho is in the lookout for new reinforcements after Tottenham’s dismal show in the league this season that has seen them slip to a lowly eighth in the table. The defensive midfield role remains a problem for Mourinho, with Eric Dier the only option for the position.

The seasoned Spurs holding midfielder has featured just 14 times in the league this season due to poor form and injuries, indicating that Spurs needs a new face in the middle. Tottenham also have the talented Oliver Skipp in that role, however, he is still young and lacks big-game experience. That said, Booth’s arrival will offer Mourinho plenty of options in the spot.

Moreover, he can also offer the 19-year-old Skipp competition, which in turn, would prove handy for Spurs. Hence, Tottenham should continue their pursuit of the Bayern prospect and land him soon.

Verdict

Except for Dier, Tottenham do not have too many options in the defensive midfield role and, hence, would benefit from signing an upcoming talent like Booth. He is young and can develop his skills under a world-class manager like Mourinho. By all means, the American teenager looks like a good fit at Tottenham.
