After working in the construction business for three years, Beets began mining in Dawson City. Today he runs the Tamarack Mine and is known for hiring local teenagers.

He began his search for Gold on 1984 in Dawson City, within the Yukon Territory, and found 3,600 ounces of gold in Eureka Creek in just 2018. That amount of gold was worth around $4.39 million.

His breakthrough came with the Discovery Channel show Gold Rush in which he started appearing during the show’s second season when he was advising cast member Todd Hoffman about drilling test holes. 

Beets have appeared in more than 160 episodes of “Gold Rush.” During season five of the series, he paid $1 million for a dredge in Clear Creek known as the Viking Dredge.
