Three players Tottenham could lose in the January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur managed to convince Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld to stay put for the time being but unfortunately, the same cannot be said for most of their other first-teamers. Tottenham have their hands tied at the moment when it comes to investing in new players and to make matters worse, the club could lose a few first-team stars.

The club could lose up to three key stars in January and that said, here are three Tottenham stars who could leave this month.

#3 Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen

The Danish star has been a revelation under Mauricio Pochettino, flourishing alongside Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-Son Min for the White Hart Lane side. But with Tottenham watching with their hands tied when it comes to future transfers, it also means that the club will have a tough time competing against the Premier League’s big boys till any stadium debt is cleared.

As we saw with Arsenal, this could mean selling their best stars. Eriksen, who currently earns £70,000-a-week, has been subjected to interest from Real Madrid. As things stand, we all know the extent of Real’s financial backing, which does give the club hope.

While it does mean losing one of their best players, the sale could fuel future transfers. But losing Christian Eriksen will put a dampener on any title hopes.

#2 Fernando Llorente

The former Swansea City man joined knowing he would have to play second fiddle to Harry Kane but things have now changed. The 33-year-old centre-forward wants more game time with former club Athletic Bilbao chasing after him, according to the Mirror.

While he may be 33, Llorente’s time at Bilbao proved that the Spaniard can find the back of the net regularly as proven by his 111 goals in 327 appearances. However, his time at Juventus and Swansea City showed that Llorente can play second fiddle and he does it well.

He scored 42 goals in 127 appearances for both sides and with his contract expiring at the end of the current season, letting him go now makes sense for both Tottenham and Llorente.

#1 Moussa Dembele

The Guardian has already reported that the 31-year-old has agreed to a move with Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan as the Belgian believes that’s he’s better suited to play there. Dembele is growing older and thus, believes that he can’t withstand the Premier League’s pace and physicality anymore.

For Tottenham, the £11million figure reported by The Guardian is a boost. With just six months left on his current deal, losing him for free could be a massive loss. Easily one of the best players of the club, Dembele’s performances have been affected this season with Moussa Sissoko replacing him in the heart of the midfield.

Not to mention, a myriad of injuries have kept him out and taken a toll on his abilities for the club. Thus, moving on is the best option.
