Why Neeskens Kebano can be a great signing for Sheffield Wednesday

The Star has revealed that Championship side Sheffield Wednesday are interested in a move for Fulham star Neeskens Kebano. The 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact this season for the Cottagers, with just five appearances to his name and a majority of them coming off the bench. This combined with his performances last season has provided the Owls with hope for a move before the window shuts.

A versatile attacking midfielder, Neeskens Kebano can play in multiple positions in the midfield and as false nine if required. While his preferred and best role is as an attacking midfielder, the 26-year-old has still struggled to help Fulham in their battle against relegation so far. The Craven Cottage side is currently 19th in the Premier League and are seven points from safety but Kebano has failed to help them so far.

While injuries have played a part in his lack of appearances this season, Fulham’s massive influx of new arrivals has not made his life any easier. The Cottagers spent heavily over the summer, adding the likes of Jean-Michel Seri, Andre Schurrle and a few others, which saw Neeskens Kebano slip down the pecking order.

But for Sheffield Wednesday, the 26-year-old could make for a brilliant acquisition. With the Congo international’s contract expiring at the end of this season, it will allow the Owls to get their man at a cut-rate price.

While Fulham do have an option to extend it, it looks unlikely that they will in the near future, which further gives the Championship side a chance. If nothing else, the Owls need an attacking midfielder who can provide creativity in the final third and even contribute with his fair share of goals. That’s exactly what Neeskens Kebano can do and he has shown it brilliantly over the last few years.

Over the last two seasons with Fulham, the 26-year-old produced 15 goals in 54 appearances which roughly add up to a goal or an assist every 3.6 games. While that isn’t world-class, it’s a great return for Sheffield Wednesday and a good enough return to convince caretaker manager Steven Agnew to make a move.

That combined with his pace and agility, and his performance against Sheffield Wednesday during the 2016/17 season, should excite the club. Neeskens Kebano flourished in the Championship and could do so once again but only if the deal is completed before the January window slams shut.
