Why Joe Worrall could be a key figure in Nottingham Forest’s chances of promotion

Nottingham Forest’s chances of securing promotion look clearer than ever, with the club currently placed 5th in the table. Although getting automatically promoted might prove to be a tough ask, Sabri Lamouchi’s men are more than capable of fighting for a spot in the playoffs.

With 8 wins and 3 losses in 15 Championship games so far, Forest are doing fairly well for themselves. Interestingly enough, out of the 3 losses, 2 of them came only in their recent 5 games.

Interestingly enough, Forest have also conceded merely 13 goals in 15 games, which is quite an admirable number when compared to their fellow promotion contenders.

Barring Leeds United’s incredible 9-goal mark, Nottingham Forest are next when it comes to the least number of goals conceded among the top five teams. And while it would be unfair to suggest that it is all down to one person’s brilliance, one cannot deny that Joe Worrall has a played a key role behind their successes.

Joe Worrall

The talented 22-year-old has played every minute of every league game in the ongoing campaign so far. Having returned from a loan spell with Rangers, Worrall has effortlessly made a mark for himself.

In fact, he is one of the most reliable players Lamouchi has at hand, especially when it comes to the defence. In fact, he had built a magnificent partnership alongside Michael Dawson, whose style of play is quite similar to Worrall’s.

Dawson, unfortunately, succumbed to an injury earlier in the season but in his absence, Worrall has held his own quite remarkably. Partnered by the likes of Chema and Tobias Figueiredo in recent times, Worrall’s brilliance was there for all to see.

The biggest advantage that Forest have is that he is a thorough homegrown defender and has worked hard to earn whatever success he is enjoying right now.

If Forest do get promoted, they must do everything possible to retain the youngster’s services. Unless one is backed by the Fosun Group like Wolverhampton Wanderers, navigating in the top flight can be a tricky prospect.

However, in the ongoing season, Sheffield United are a solid inspiration for any Championship club struggling to make it in the promised land of the Premier League.

Sabri Lamouchi

Although Sheffield United are separated by 8 points from fourth-placed Manchester City, the fact that they have even broken into the top five is a true testament to Chris Wilder’s passion and tactics. And as any Nottingham Forest supporter would know, the Reds do not lack passion.

Thus, if things continue progressing at this pace, Joe Worrall could eventually make all the difference for Forest in the playoffs and – possibly – the Premier League.
