Based on Jenny Han’s young adult book trilogy and following 16-year-old Belly Conklin through a love triangle between brother-and Abercrombie and Fitch models Conrad and Jeremiah;

At the conclusion of season one, Belly’s mother Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) died, deepening family tensions further. This forced Belly to choose between Conrad and Jeremiah – prompting an explosive scene at Susannah’s funeral and leading them both into confrontational interactions with one another. Additionally, Jeremiah reached out for comfort while his sister mourned their mother.

Season 2 will focus on the second book in the series, It’s Not Summer Without You, as seen through Cousins Beach as its inhabitants grapple with real estate and grief issues. Lola Tung will reprise her role as Belly; Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno reprise their roles as rival suitors to Belly; Steven (Sean Kaufman) and Laurel (Jackie Chung) return; as do Steven Kaufman (Steven’s son).

Kyra Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher will join Kyra Sedgwick as Julia, Susannah’s half-sister; Elsie Fisher will play Skye (Susannah’s non-binary daughter). Minnie Mills who previously portrayed Steven’s love interest Shayla will no longer return for season 2. Additionally, many familiar faces from season one will appear as recurring roles.

Release Date

The Summer I Turned Pretty was quickly renewed for a second season before its initial premiere, even without all its original cast returning (Minnie Mills isn’t back, while Kyra Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher will play new recurring roles like Sky and Susannah’s sister). Most major characters will return, however.

Lola Tung will reprise her role of Isabel “Belly” Conklin, with Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno reprising their roles as her Cousins Beach brothers Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno; Rachel Blanchard and Sean Kaufman will return as Susannah and Steven respectively, as will Jackie Chung and Rain Spencer as Laurel and Taylor respectively.

As for its storylines, the show will adapt the plot from Han’s second novel in his trilogy: It’s Not Summer Without You. In it, Belly and her brothers wrestle with their feelings for one another while Susannah’s cancer comes back after several years in remission. Prime Video will begin releasing three episodes on July 14, and then weekly until the season concludes in August.

Trailer

Prime Video released a trailer of The Summer I Turned Pretty for its second season this June, showing romantic moments between Belly and Conrad and an emotional scene between Susannah and Laurel. Additionally, the trailer revealed Jeremiah as Belly’s love interest while teaseing their potential romance triangle relationship and Steven’s reunion with Taylor as potential plot points.

The second season will follow plot lines from Han’s second book of his trilogy, It’s Not Summer Without You. The debut episode will air on July 14, with subsequent weekly episodes airing until the finale in September. Cast has come together and shot their scenes at Cousins Beach.

Though season one’s end gave hope for Susannah, mother to both Conrad and Jeremiah, cancer has taken its toll. This news will undoubtedly wreak havoc with their relationship – which had already become tenuous due to their love triangle – between Belly, Jeremiah, Conrad and Susannah.

Lola Tung and Christopher Briney will return as Belly’s love interests, with Gavin Casalegno reprising his role of Jeremiah. Rachel Blanchard will also reprise her role of Susannah. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news on what lies in store for the series!
