Premier League transfer XI consisting of new arrivals and more

The English transfer window closed on August 9th but clubs can still offload players deemed surplus to requirements to teams outside the country. However, they cannot purchase reinforcements to strengthen their squads until the winter window in January.

Newly-promoted sides Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers made good use of the window, landing some shrewd additions to their squads. Manchester United and Newcastle United struggled to sign their summer priority targets.  Jose Mourinho has not been overly impressed by the Red Devils’ business. Liverpool were the highest spenders as they added Alisson Becker, Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and Fabinho to the squad that reached the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League finals in May.

While Premier League champions Manchester City captured Riyad Mahrez, new managers at Chelsea and Arsenal had to contend with minor squad overhauls. Everton, Cyrstal Palace and West Ham United continued their rebuilding process under Marco Silva, Roy Hodgson and Manuel Pellegrini respectively.

However, it was Tottenham Hotspur who made history by becoming the first club in Premier League history to not make any new signings since the summer transfer window was established in 2003. Spurs fans must take consolation in new long-term deals signed by their star players and a sparkling new stadium.
