Former World No.3 Dominic Thiem has been in sublime touch in recent times and is creating new records

Dominic Thiem is creating new personal records in the ATP circuit. The Austrian ace who is currently playing at the European Open in Antwerp has scored three bagels in the last ten days. Two of those bagels have come at the Gijon Open last week while the other one was scored yesterday in Antwerp.

Thiem scored his first bagel last week on October 10 in the Round of 32 of the Gijon Open. Thiem scored the bagel during a convincing straight sets 6-2, 6-0 win over Portugal’s Joao Sousa. The Austrian scored his second bagel in the very next match against Marcos Giron. Thiem eventually bowed out of the tournament after losing to top seed Andrey Rublev in the semi-final.

In his Round of 32 match yesterday at the European Open, Thiem scored his third bagel. It came against Belgium’s Michael Geerts during his 6-4, 6-0. Thiem will play his quarter-final match of the same tournament tomorrow.

Who holds the record for scoring most bagels among active players?

After Federer’s retirement, Novak Djokovic is the closest challenger to Rafael Nadal – who, with 113 bagels holds the record of scoring most bagels among active players. Djokovic (98) is second on the list while Andy Murray (70) is quite a long way behind. Spain’s Fernando Verdasco (46) and Frenchman Richard Gasquet (43) complete the top five.

While Rafael Nadal leads the pack of active players, the Spaniard still is well behind Jimmy Connors’ all-time record of 198 bagels. Several other legends from the past have also amassed more bagels in their careers than Rafael Nadal. Those include Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl, Guillermo Vilas, Ilie Nastase, Manuel Orantes and Andre Agassi. However, Nadal could very well surpass Agassi’s tally of 116 by the time he retires.
