Brittney Griner was detained in Russia earlier this year after the police found small amounts of cannabis in her luggage. By August, a Russian court had sentenced her to 9 years in prison after convicting her on drug charges. Her appeal was rejected on October 25 and now she has been transferred to the Russian penal colony where she will serve out her sentence.

I am determined to get her home and get her home safely,” American President Joe Biden said Wednesday after the news came out regarding Russian authorities transferring the basketball star to a penal colony. However, it is going to be a difficult task to get Grinner out of trouble.

Former American tennis player, Chris Evert, tweeted a message of support for Griner. She wrote:

“That’s NOT OK….It’s a horrendous situation for Brittney and her family. She does not deserve this treatment, it’s a nightmare…#BringBrittneyHome 🙏🙏🙏”
