Spaniard Francis Roig has parted ways with Rafael Nadal’s coaching team on good terms

The former world No. 1 had a fine season overall as he added two Grand Slam titles to his already-impressive trophy cabinet. Rafael Nadal recently played in an exhibition tournament in South America after his ATP season ended with a win against Casper Ruud in the ATP Finals in Turin.

Nadal suffered a few injuries during the season that pegged him back but in the off-season, he will hope to recuperate and begin the new season in the pink of health. The Spaniard will be without the services of compatriot Francis Roig in the upcoming tennis season. Coach Roig worked began working with Nadal when the latter did not have any Grand Slam titles under his belt. 18 years later, Nadal is a 22-time Grand Slam champion and one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Roig’s contribution to Nadal’s achievements is immense and laudable.

The current world No. 2 announced on social media that Roig will be leaving his coaching team to focus on a new personal project as a coach.

The 54-year-old Francis Roig received a lot of praise from Rafael Nadal as the latter posted a heartfelt message on social media.

“I wanted to inform you that Francis Roig is leaving the team. Francis has been an important person in my career and I am very grateful to him for all these years of work and friendship. When we started working together I was a child and together with my uncle Toni, we started on the circuit,” he wrote.

It will be interesting to see where Roig goes from hereon. His experience of coaching one of the best players in the sport is worth its weight in gold.
