Simona Halep was scheduled to play Daria Saville in the second round of the Miami Open but took to social media to announce that she has withdrawn due to injury and will be out for three weeks

Simona Halep suffered a thigh injury during her Indian Wells semi-final loss against Iga Swiatek last week and it caused her discomfort once again while training on Wednesday. The Romanian star announced her decision to withdraw on Twitter.

“While I was practising in Miami yesterday I felt a sharp pain in my left leg. I had been struggling with the thigh injury since my semi-final in Indian Wells and hoped it would improve but I went for an MRI last night and unfortunately it shows a tear”, Halep wrote on Twitter.

She further stated, “My body needs time to heal and as a result I will be out of competition for three weeks. This means I have had to make the super tough decision to pull out of Miami, Charleston and Fed Cup.”

“While it feels like really disappointing news to share, I’m keeping the confidence from my great start to the year and am motivated to do everything to be ready for the clay-court season. Thanks for your continued support through the highs lows”, Halep thanked her supporters and followers on Twitter.

Fans react to Simona Halep’s announcement

Halep’s fans and followers were left devasted after the tennis star announced she is withdrawing from the Miami Open. Fans were left gutted and they expressed their concern and conveyed their best wishes for Halep on Twitter.

Fans wished for a speedy recovery so that they can see their favourite star back on the court very soon. “Nooo…speedy recovery Simo”, tweeted a well-wisher.

“I’m so sorry! Damn it. This is so unfair”, wrote a fan who was devastated by the news.

“You can get all the time you need, moncherie. We need you fully fit for RG. Rooting for you”, tweeted a fan wishing that she recovers in time and maintains peak form during the second Grand Slam of the year – the Roland Garros, which starts in a month’s time.

“Bad luck for Halep, who was looking in good touch this year. Wishing Simona a speedy recovery”, wrote an user who was gutted that this injury occured just when Halep was playing her finest tennis of recent times.

“Awww no @Simona_Halep this is super unfortunate news but you have to look after your body. Take care & see you back on court soon”, tweeted an ardent fan.

Simona Halep has been in good touch this season. She started the year with a bang by winning the Melbourne Summer Set but had a disappointing fourth round exit at the Australian Open. However, she came back strong and made it to the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Indian Wells Masters but lost on both occasions.
This injury could be a blessing in disguise as it gives Halep ample time to get herself in the best for the Roland Garros in a few weeks’ time.
