Current World No.2 Rafael Nadal is in Mexico and has sailed into the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament

Rafael Nadal voiced his opinion on the epidemic Coronavirus ahead of the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The World No.2 is currently playing at the Mexico Open in Acapulco and has reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament.

The Spanish star was speaking during a press conference after his second-round win. He was asked about the situation that has been created around Tokyo 2020 by the coronavirus.

“Hopefully it is controlled, that the remedy is found and this uncertainty is stopped, this psychosis, this fear. It is the most important thing, not only for the Olympic Games but for humanity,” Nadal said.

Nadal, on the other hand, advanced into the quarterfinals in Mexico with a 6-2, 7-5 win over young Serbian Miomir Kecmanović.

Nadal reacts to Sharapova’s retirement

Meanwhile, Nadal also expressed his sadness and respect after getting to know about the retirement of Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova, 32, had earlier on Wednesday announced her retirement from tennis through a magazine:

“It’s a sad day for tennis, a referent of women’s tennis is leaving, but we all end up one day. She has been an example of passion for the sport,” said Nadal during the press conference.

Nadal also admitted that he experienced an improvement in his game after having a rather slow start to the tournament.

The Mallorcan will next meet South Korean Kwon Soon-woo for a place in the final four.
