Daniil Medvedev is the top-ranked player in the world and will enter the US Open 2022 as the defending champion after producing a spectacular display last year at Flushing Meadows.

The Russian tennis pro began his Cincinnati Open campaign with a comprehensive 6-4, 7-5 victory against Botic van de Zandschulp in the round of 32. He didn’t have a memorable time at the recently-concluded Canadian Open as he lost in the first round against Nick Kyrgios 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 2-6.

Former tennis pro – Eric Butorac posted a picture of Daniil Medvedev signing autographs after his match against the Dutchman. According to Butorac, the 26-year-old took a full lap around the center court and patiently signed all the autographs that were requested of him by the fans. In the caption he wrote:

“The things you don’t see on tv…when players like @DaniilMedwed do a full lap around center court signing every autograph at 10:23pm. Not bad.”

Daniil Medvedev will look to go deep at Cincinnati before defending his title at the US Open which begins on August 29.

Last year, Medvedev won his first three matches at Cincinnati without dropping a set. However, in the semi-final, he lost to Andrey Rublev.

Medvedev will face the winner of the match between Tommy Paul and Denis Shapalov. Both Paul and Shapalov won their first-round matches in straight sets against Jenson Brooksby and Grigor Dimitrov respectively.
