Novak Djokovic is yet to lose a match in 2021 and made short work of Jannik Sinner at Monte Carlo

Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic opened his 2021 Monte Carlo Masters account with a commanding display against Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic, who has 18 Grand Slam titles to his name, is chasing his third title in Monte Carlo. The 2020 edition was not held due to the coronavirus pandemic, but there are some other big names keen on getting the title.

While Djokovic is the No.1 seed, his greatest competitor would be Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard has won a record 11 titles at Monte Carlo and won eight in a row before Djokovic defeated him in the 2013 final.

Nevertheless, the final is still some way off for Djokovic but he put on quite a show here. He won the first set 6-2 but the second was an even better performance.

The Djoker won the second set 6-2 and reached the round of 16. Djokovic didn’t have any aces in this match and was only 50% on break points. However, he still had something to celebrate in all this.

Novak Djokovic planning for Roland Garros

The start of the clay season is actually preparation for Roland Garros. That is another tournament where Nadal is the king, and it would take quite a feat for Djokovic to beat the Spaniard there.

Nevertheless, Djokovic is in some fine form. He is undefeated in 2021 and has won 10 matches in a row.

Djokovic has won all his singles matches this year and that includes the ATP Cup. However, the Serbian also put on quite a performance at the Australian Open where he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the finals.

He has won a record nine Australian Open titles but Roland Garros is a different ask. Djokovic reached the final in 2020 and lost to none other than Nadal.

In fact, Djokovic has reached the French Open final five times and has won only once.
