The talented Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz faced another talented youngster, Jannik Sinner, in a Round of 16 clash at the ongoing Wimbledon 2022 competition.
Carlos Alcaraz is just 19 while Jannik Sinner is just a year older than him. Both are touted as two of the best young players in men’s tennis at the moment. They have great potential and have already begun breaking records at such young ages.
The 11th seed became the youngest Italian man to reach the Round of 16 at Wimbledon in the Open Era. By virtue of his win over Alcaraz in the round of 16, Sinner has now become the youngest man to reach the quarter-final since Nick Kyrgios in 2014.
Interestingly, Sinner had never won a grass-court match until this year’s Wimbledon. Sinner has reached the quarter-finals of three out of the four Grand Slams till now. He dominated the match from the outset. The youngster blew away Alcaraz in the first set 6-1. The world No. 7 tried to get back into the match in the second set but Sinner seemed to have the answers to whatever was being thrown at him. The second set was won by the Italian 6-4.
Alcaraz had to grind hard for a hard-fought 7-6(10-8) win in the third set, but Sinner was unstoppable in the fourth set to eventually win the match 6-1, 6-4, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3. Sinner will need to better his best performance in the quarter-final as he takes on the defending champion Novak Djokovic.

Carlos Alcaraz had not played much on grass courts as of late. He would have learned a lot from his campaign at the third Grand Slam of the year.
Taking to Twitter, Alcaraz praised Jannik Sinner for his performance in the quarter-final and wished him good luck going forward in the tournament. He ended the tweet by saying that he will return home and improve to enjoy many more moments on the tennis court.
