John Isner breaks all-time record for aces despite third-round Wimbledon defeat against Jannik Sinner

John Isner wrote his name into the history books on Friday but couldn’t get past the third round at Wimbledon 2022.

Earlier on Friday, John Isner became the king of aces when he broke the all-time record for serving aces during his third-round match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon 2022. Although the American tennis star suffered a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 defeat against the Italian and crashed out of the English tournament, Isner was able to grab himself a piece of history in the process.

Isner racked up 24 aces against Sinner and his fifth ace of the match put him in the top spot on the list for most aces served with 13,729. He overtook Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic’s previous mark of 13,728 aces. It was a landmark and feat reached by no other tennis player on the ATP circuit.

John Isner aces record

Over the course of his ATP career, John Isner now has a total of 13,748 aces, an all-time record. Through his aces alone, Isner could win a total of 3,437 games and nearly 573 sets if they are added up. He also holds the record for the most aces served in a match at 113, which came against Nicolas Mahut. in a game that lasted 11 hours and five minutes.

At 6-foot-10, Isner is also the tallest player on the circuit. His 14ft reach makes it a nightmare for opponents to return his serve. Although the 37-year-old may never win a Grand Slam in his career, he is expected to hold his aces record for a long time to come.
