Holger Rune ran through top-seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the Round of 16 of the Bavarian International Tennis Championships (aka BMW Open by American Express)

18-year old Holger Rune crushed top-seed Alexander Zverev in the Round of 16 of the Bavarian International Tennis Championships (aka BMW Open by American Express) to advance to the quarter-finals.

The Dane beat Zverev 6-3, 6-2 to cap off a major upset. Zverev, coming off a semi-final loss against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Monte-Carlo Masters, was determined to get his hands on the title (being the top seed).

However, a surging Rune obliterated Zverev, putting his Round of 16 loss at the Serbia Open to rest with a splendid win. This was the Dane’s first top 10 win.

Given that he is only 18, much is expected of Rune in the years to come.
