Why Paul Pogba must stay at Manchester United amidst tensions
Tensions between Paul Pogba and Manchester United are seemingly escalating, even after the Frenchman led the club to a 2-1 win over Leicester City in their opening Premier League fixture. The World Cup winner was asked about his future, and according to Independent, the 25-year-old said:
“If you’re not happy, you cannot give your best. There are things that I cannot say otherwise I will get fined.”
Sky Sports has stated that Spanish champions Barcelona are not ruling out a move for Pogba in this transfer window. Their president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has left a potential door open for a late move (h/t Sky Sports). The Spanish transfer window doesn’t end until 31st August, meaning there is plenty of time for the Catalans to do business.
However, from Pogba’s point of view, moving to Barcelona may not be the right move for him. Here, we take a look as to why the Frenchman must stay put this summer:
Barcelona have enough options
Barcelona have bought the likes of Arthur and Arturo Vidal, in addition to signing Phillipe Coutinho earlier in January. Furthermore, the La Liga champions also have Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets to hold the midfield together. So, they probably have enough options to choose from for the upcoming season.
If Pogba does move to Camp Nou, Barcelona will certainly strengthen their squad to a great extent. However, the World Cup winner could find it tough to play on a regular basis. With Vidal in the mix, Barcelona have successfully covered every position in the central areas of the pitch. So, the Frenchman might not enjoy going away from Manchester United, where he was given the captain’s armband, to warm the bench in Spain.
Hence, joining Barcelona would be a bad move for the 25-year-old, who still has plenty of years left to showcase his high-quality talent. He must stay back at Old Trafford and work towards adjusting to Jose Mourinho’s system. Fighting to acquire the spotlight in England will help him become a better player, rather than going under the radar at Barcelona.

Everything in football happens for a reason and surely Pogba would have his own justification for his comments. However, if he really wants to move elsewhere, Barcelona won’t be the right place for him. Hence, he should either stay back and continue leading Manchester United or move to a different country, perhaps Italy.
