Why Southampton need to go all out for Leed United starlet Jack Clarke

Few Leeds United stars have impressed Marcelo Bielsa like Jack Clarke has, with the teenager winning plaudits from fans and critics alike. The 18-year-old winger has made 12 appearances in the Championship this season but 11 of them have come off the bench. That has not fazed the teenage winger and he continues to excel for the Championship leaders.

With that kind of form and confidence comes great interest from the Premier League, with Calciomercato reporting that Southampton are interested in signing the 18-year-old. The Saints are renowned for their youth academy which has produced more than their fair share of superstars over the years including the likes of Gareth Bale, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, and Theo Walcott among many others.

However, at the moment, they need Jack Clarke to add that ambition and confidence into a side that is battling relegation this season. But Daily Mail has reported that Manchester City are also in the race for the young teenage star, which could further complicate things for Ralph Hasenhuttl as they look to make a move soon.

For Jack Clarke, on the other hand, the Mirror has already reported that Leeds United aren’t looking to sell the 18-year-old in January. While a move in the summer could be possible, the Saints need to remain in the Premier League to convince Clarke.

Given the youngster’s talent both on the ball, his composure and growing ability in front of goal combined with his pace and agility simply add to his value. This season has seen the Clarke undergo a few changes, with the 18-year-old improving his defensive abilities as well.

Bielsa demands defensive work from not just his back-line but everyone in the side, which is something Jack Clarke has taken to heart. While the 18-year-old will improve further in the future, his current abilities make him a valuable star. But for Southampton, if they manage to convince Leeds United to let one of their best stars go, they will get another great talent on their books.

More so, it will allow the Saints to rebuild their side under a manager who has a proven future with youngsters.
