Why Wolves should go for Lazio’s Wallace

The Wolves are back. That’s right, Wolverhampton Wanderers are back in the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were in stunning form last season, winning the Championship title with 99 points, 9 points above second-placed Cardiff City.

Now, the West Midlands outfit must make a strong return to the top-flight after a prolonged absence. The manager must sign a number of players to bolster the squad ahead of their new season. They have already completed a deal for Rui Patricio but there are other areas that require strengthening as well.

With Willy Boly’s loan deal expiring this summer, Santo must sign a replacement. Lazio defender Wallace is reportedly attracting a lot of interest from the Wolves. The 23-year-old centre-back began his professional career with Sparta Braga in Portugal, before leaving for a two-year loan stint with AS Monaco in Ligue 1.

He then joined Lazio on a permanent basis in the summer of 2016, but since then, Wallace has found regular football hard to come by.

The centre-back made a total of just 17 appearances last season. In order to revive his career, Wallace must consider joining Santo’s explosive side. At the age of 23, the Brazilian has shown immense potential and maturity in his performances. He is rock-solid at the back and his vocal approach to the game makes him stand out.

Wallace averaged 1.3 tackles and 2.2 interceptions per game last season and if he provided with a regular run of games, the Brazilian is destined to deliver.

Wallace, who was born in Brazil, is a client of the Gestifute agency, which is owned by Wolves’ associate Jorge Mendes. He has three years left on his Lazio contract but the newly-promoted outfit could utilize their relationship with Mendes to strike a deal for the centre-back.

Ahead of the new season, Wolverhampton will need all hands on deck as they return to the Premier League and Nuno Espirito Santo should do everything in his power to sign the defender. He would not only bolster their forces but also provide healthy competition for the other players in the squad.
