Why Sheffield United should boost their strikeforce with Ollie Watkins

According to The Sun, Sheffield United are set to offer £15m for Brentford forward Watkins.

Chris Wilder’s men have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season after being promoted to the Premier League. His style of play has been found difficult to breakdown by the opponents.

In 15 games so far, they have managed 4 wins and 3 draws, thereby accumulating 19 points. They are 9th in the league, ahead of Arsenal on goal difference and one point behind Tottenham Hotspur.

In Lys Mousset, Oli McBurnie and Callum Robinson, Wilder has three decent strikers at his disposal. The trio has not disappointed either, with each of them contributing to the team’s success. Mousset, in particular, has been phenomenal in recent weeks with a powerful performance against Manchester United.

As far as Watkins is concerned, he has scored 12 goals in just 20 games and is enjoying his best-ever Championship campaign. He has benefitted immensely with a switch from the wings to the centre-forward position.

While bolstering United’s attack might not be Wilder’s immediate priority, he should test the club’s resolve and fork out the required fee to sign Watkins.

As things stand, Sheffield have enhanced their chances of staying up in the top tier, especially when fellow promoted sides Aston Villa and Norwich City are struggling.

Verdict

Ollie Watkins is already proving to be a very good player for Brentford and is capable of playing on the wings as well as upfront.

His presence would add the cutting edge to Chris Wilder’s force, thus bolstering their chances of achieving a top-ten finish in their maiden season back in the Premier League.
