Manchester United vs West Ham prediction: Manchester United line-up

Manchester United welcome West Ham at the Old Trafford on Saturday as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims to get into the top four.

The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 at home to Barcelona in the first leg of Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday. Solskjaer should be pleased with his team’s performance but he’ll expect more from his boys and a positive result in the Premier League game at the weekend.

West Ham, meanwhile, have had a wretched away form this season and come into this game off the back of a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Team News

Luke Shaw will miss the games against West Ham and Everton after picking up his tenth yellow card of the season against Wolves. Ashley Young will miss Saturday’s game after getting a second yellow in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves.

Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic missed the Barcelona game with knock and muscular injury respectively and remain doubtful. Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian remain sidelined but Alexis Sanchez could be back in the squad after recovering from a knee injury.

Probable Manchester United XI

Formation: 3-5-2

Manager: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

David de Gea (GK)

De Gea has been subpar this season but he remains United’s undoubted first-choice in goal.

Diogo Dalot (RWB)

Dalot needs to bring more consistency to his game if he is nail down a place in the starting XI. He’ll start at right wing-back on Saturday.

Diogo Dalot

Phil Jones (RCB)

Jones could be handed a start in a three-man backline against West Ham. The 26-year-old will have to be at the top of his game to help United to a clean sheet.

Chris Smalling (CB)

Smalling was imperious against Barcelona, managing to keep Lionel Messi and co. quiet for majority of the game. He’ll be eager to replicate that performance against the Hammers.

Victor Lindelof (LCB)

The Sweden international has been the club’s best defender this season. He has to deliver a strong performance if the hosts are to win all three points on Saturday.

Marcos Rojo (LWB)

With Shaw and Young suspended, Rojo could be handed a surprise start at left wing-back.

Fred

Fred (CDM)

Fred put in a really good performance in the defeat against Barcelona. His tenacity and aggression in the middle of the park will be required on Saturday, although he’ll start in a deeper role again.

Scott McTominay (RCM)

McTominay shone against an experienced, quality Barcelona midfield on Wednesday, exceling with his decision-making and ability on the ball. He’s an undoubted starter for the hosts.

Paul Pogba (LCM)

Pogba has gone missing in the last few weeks and his lack of influence has directly affected United’s performances. The Frenchman, however, will look to get back his mojo and help the Red Devils to a victory over West Ham.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku (LS)

With his pace, power and physicality, Lukaku could be a handful for the West Ham defenders at the weekend.

Marcus Rashford (RS)

Rashford has been United’s primary weapon up front under Solskjaer but the England international is expected to partner Lukaku in what could be a two-pronged attack.
