Southampton vs Liverpool News: Liverpool Player Ratings + Reaction

Liverpool were faced with yet another difficult task when they travelled to Southampton to take on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s relegation-battling Saints side who gave the Reds a real run for their money through most periods of the game.

In the end though, goals from Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson we’re enough to cancel out Shane Long’s early opener as Liverpool ran out comfortable 3-1 winners on paper, but the story of the match did not reflect in the score-line.

Here’s our Liverpool Player Ratings for this tight encounter:

Allison Becker 6

The Brazilian didn’t have the most comfortable outing at the St.Mary’s and looked twitchy while collecting crosses.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

The youngster was in the right place to provide Naby Keita with an assist but wasn’t at his usual best today.

Joel Matip 6

Was thorough while defending crosses but did find himself in dangerous situations on more than one occasion.

Van Dijk1

Virgil van Dijk 6

Could be held responsible for the Saints’ opener but did well to come back and rejuvenate his defence in the 2nd half.

Andrew Robertson 6

His usual dangerous self, he could also be held accountable for the Saints’ opener but did well after that incident.

Fabinho 6

The Brazilian had a decent day out and did well to commandeer the play despite being careless on the ball at times.

Georginio Wijnaldum 4

The Dutchman was quite poor throughout the game until he was finally subbed off by Jurgen Klopp in the 59th minute.

Naby Keita

Naby Keita 6

Took his header well to find Liverpool’s crucial equaliser in the first-half but needs to improve drastically.

Mohamed Salah 7

Scored an absolute beauty of a goal to tilt the game back in the Reds’ favour and was a threat from the first minute.

Roberto Firmino 6

Notched up a decent assist in Jordan Henderson’s late goal but did look rather lazy in his overall display.

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane 6

The speedster had his fair share of bright moments but failed to really impact the game after a certain point.

James Milner 6

Brought on to replace Alexander-Arnold on the 60-minute mark, Milner did a decent job on the right side.

Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson 6

Was jolly on the spot to score Liverpool’s third goal and did well in midfield after coming on in place of Wijnaldum.
