Predicted Tottenham XI to face Brentford in the EFL Cup

Tottenham and Brentford square off in the first semi-final of the EFL Cup for a place in the final. Spurs haven’t been in the best of form over the last month, winning only two of their last 5 games, including the quarter-final against Stoke City.

Brentford, on the other hand, have had some momentum behind them, winning 4 of their last 5 games including a win over Newcastle. Spurs can be termed as favourites for the game but given this is single leg tie, anyone can grab the game.

Team News

There are likely to be some players missing for this tie. Giovani Lo Celso and Gareth Bale will be unavailable through injury. Erik Lamela continues his recovery. As for suspensions, Matt Doherty is on that list after his two yellows against Leeds United. A few fringe players could come back into the fold but expect most of the first-team players to start given a spot.

Probable Tottenham XI vs Brentford

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Joe Hart (GK)

Could be given a nod for this game in place of Lloris.

Ben Davies (LB)

Comes in place of Reguilon to deputise. He’s been second choice for a while and this is a game for him to prove a point.

Eric Dier (CB)

Dier has now become a mainstay in defence. He has done well in that role so far.

Davinson Sanchez (CB)

One of the fringe players who could be given a chance in this cup game. Sanchez takes the place of Toby Alderweireld.

Serge Aurier (RB)

With Doherty suspended, Aurier is the automatic choice for the right-back role.

Moussa Sissoko (DM)

Was only a substitute in the last game but should start this one.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (DM)

Hard to point out any flaw in the former Southampton man’s game. Ever present in the team and will be tasked with breaking down the opposition’s attacks.

Dele Alli (CAM)

Another fringe player who will be hoping to get some game time. Alli has fallen down the pecking order under Mourinho.

Heung-Min Son (LW)

Will be Spurs’ most important player again and needs to keep firing on all cylinders.

Lucas Moura (RW)

Moura could be handed a start ahead of Bergwijn, with so many games to come soon.

Harry Kane (ST)

Harry Kane is having one of his best ever seasons in front of goal and with this being an important game, Mourinho will look towards his talisman to get them over the line.
