Predicted Rangers XI to face St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership

Rangers completed an impressive 3-1 comeback win against Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, thanks to a brace from Kemar Roofe and a strike from Cedric Itten.

Steven Gerrard’s side will once again be the outright favourites to come away with all three points when they make the trip to bottom-table St. Johnstone on Wednesday night. The Gers go into the midweek league fixture 16 points clear of arch-rivals Celtic, who have three games in hand.

Callum Davidson’s side were beaten 3-0 by the Ibrox giants back in August and they could be up against it once again this time around as Rangers look to continue their unbeaten domestic run.

Rangers will be boosted by the return of Alfredo Morelos, who missed the last game due to a red card suspension. Gerrard, though, will be without the likes of Ryan Jack (muscle) and Leon Balogun (head) for the midweek trip to St. Johnstone. Nikola Katic remains a long-term absentee for the Gers with a knee problem.

Probable Rangers XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Allan McGregor (GK)

The veteran put in another impressive shift between the sticks in the last game and should comfortably retain his place in the starting eleven.

James Tavernier (RB)

The skipper had a rare bad day at the office against Motherwell and will be expected to return to his best for the trip to St. Johnstone.

Connor Goldson (CB)

The former Brighton man has been an undisputed starter the back for Gerrard and should feature once again on Wednesday.

Filip Helander (CB)

The Swede had a decent outing against Motherwell and looks set for an extended run in the starting XI with Balogun out injured.

Calvin Bassey (LB)

The former Leicester City starlet has looked really exciting at times and could get a look in for this one if Gerrard opts to rotate his squad.

Glen Kamara (LCM)

The Finnish international was subbed at the break against Motherwell after a really poor first-half by his standards, but he remains a key cog in Rangers’ engine room.

Bongani Zungu (RCM)

The South African hasn’t really had much game time at Ibrox and Gerrard should hand him a start on Wednesday to rest Arfield, who has been pretty busy in recent weeks.

Steven Davis (CDM)

The veteran put in a tidy performance in the 3-1 win over Motherwell and is likely to start once again in the absence of Ryan Jack.

Kemar Roofe (RW)

The former Leeds United star will be high on confidence heading into the trip to St. Johnstone after guiding his side to victory with a brace in the last game.

Ryan Kent (LW)

The ex-Liverpool graduate has been in sparkling form this season and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t start on Wednesday.

Alfredo Morelos (ST)

Jermain Defoe and Cedric Itten both featured in the Colombian’s absence in the last game but the talismanic hitman should walk straight back into the starting XI against St. Johnstone.
