Goals are one of the most central ingredients to winning a match anywhere across the world. It is often a pleasure to watch attacking football and strikers rightfully walk away with the lion’s share of appreciation after scoring goals to win games.
Come December 2019, as Christmas is nearing, the Premier League has witnessed many stunners. Here are 3 goals which have stood out this season so far.
Jack Grealish vs Manchester United
Jack Grealish has been Aston Villa’s best player for the last couple of years. He again justified his impact with a stunning goal against Manchester United.
In the 10th minute of their Premier League clash against Manchester United, Jack Grealish produced a moment of magic to fire his boyhood club into the lead. The attacker effortlessly glided past Victor Lindelof on the left-wing before curling the ball into the top corner. David de Gea was left stunned by the ace’s brilliant effort – the Spaniard had absolutely no chance of stopping this.
It was an effortless display from the Villa captain, particularly in the first half. Everything he did was intelligent and instinctive, hanging out on the left and then drifting inside with purpose, intent and a genuine threat.
On the occasions when United’s players could get near him, they could only foul but the goal he scored was brilliant in its execution, even if the apparent ease with which he skipped past Andreas Pereira was something of a concern.
Anwar El-Ghazi pinged a lovely diagonal ball to him on the left-hand side, with Pereira standing off the Aston Villa captain enough to allow Grealish to move in before curling a sensational effort into the far corner from the tightest of angles.
Harry Wilson vs Manchester City
With Bournemouth 2-0 down at home to Manchester City, the writing looked to be on the wall for the south coast club. That was until the Liverpool loanee stepped up from 30 yards in first-half stoppage time. Wilson’s free-kick against City was Bournemouth’s only goal of the game and came just before the interval.
AFC Bournemouth completed the loan signing of midfielder Harry Wilson at the start of the season. The 22-year-old, who can operate out wide or in a central role, became the club’s fifth arrival of the summer, following Lloyd Kelly, Jack Stacey, Philip Billing and Arnaut Danjuma through the doors at Vitality Stadium.
The Wrexham-born star has been at Liverpool since joining their academy in the under-nines and rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut in an FA Cup tie at Plymouth in January 2017. He also enjoyed loan spells at Crewe Alexandra, Hull City and, most recently, Derby County, where he struck 17 goals in 46 appearances as the Rams reached the Championship play-off final.
The Wales international has become almost Beckham-esque with his ability from a dead-ball situation, but this goal against the champions was something else. The free-kick was spectacular as it had the perfect accuracy, dip and speed to get past Ederson from just outside the box.
Harvey Barnes vs Sheffield United
In Leicester game against Sheffield United, Sheffield United’s club-record signing McBurnie opened his account for the season and equalised the game at 1-1 after Jamie Vardy had put the Foxes ahead. The Blades looked the more likely to go on and win the game, but they were sucker-punched by a truly wonderful goal.
Barnes had been bought on as a Leicester reply to the equaliser and repaid the faith soon after. Caglar Soyuncu nodded the ball his way and he thundered a half-volley through the area with his first touch, leaving Dean Henderson rooted to the spot.
In the 70th minute one of Leicester’s centre-backs, Soyuncu, joined in an attack and inadvertently headed the ball back from a cross by Christian Fuchs. It dropped perfectly for Barnes, who, having just replaced Dennis Praet, walloped it into the net from 15 yards.
