Why Solskjaer can spark a turnaround for Manchester United

After a disappointing start to the ongoing Premier League campaign, Manchester United have shown promising signs in their last couple of top-flight games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handled the building pressure admirably while his team churned out two much-needed victories against Tottenham Hotspur and arch-rivals Manchester City. As a result, the Red Devils find themselves placed 5th in the standings with 24 points as of now.

Earlier when they had plummeted down the table, a top-four finish looked unlikely for the struggling club. However, these victories have come at a crucial juncture for Solskjaer and how they perform in the upcoming fixtures could either make or break the rest of their season.

That said, the Norwegian boss must take heart from the fact that his job is ‘safe’. According to a report by Daily Mail, the Glazers family has assured him that he is here to stay.

Unbeaten in their last 7 games across competitions, the Red Devils have games coming up against the likes of AZ Alkmaar, Everton, Colchester United, Watford and Newcastle United.

It would be unfair to call this run easy but compared to the challenges posed by Tottenham and City, suffice to say that the Manchester outfit must not provide room for any more slip-ups. And settling for nothing less than a win must be the top priority for the club.

Although the road ahead is tough, Solskjaer has proven his worth by notching up wins against teams managed by mastermind tacticians like Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. The team is filled with budding youngsters and in recent times, most of them have truly burst onto the picture. Scott McTominay looks like a player reborn while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire have tightened the defence considerably.

Furthermore, with Paul Pogba set to return from injury, Solskjaer will have a well-rounded team to work with in the days to come.

If they can get through December unscathed and with a good winning record, United would get closer to reclaiming their lost glory. In addition, they would also have a chance to book a berth in next season’s Champions League.
