Why Wolves should do everything possible to sign Portu in the summer?

Wolves have performed well in the Premier League after winning the Championship title last season under Nuno Espirito Santo. It would be a wonderful achievement if they qualify for Europe that’ll only polish Nuno’s credentials as a manager.

Nuno was backed heavily last summer to improve his squad that could rub shoulders with the Premier League teams. Not only have Wolves rubbed shoulders with the big boys, but also have managed to produce some fantastic results. That itself speak volumes about the squad, yet there are a couple of areas Nuno should focus on strengthening during the summer transfer window.

Despite possessing a formidable attack, with the likes of Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota, Helder Costa, Adama Traore and Ivan Cavaleiro working well in tandem, Nuno should go all out to sign Girona forward Portu.

Portu Girona

Portu, 26, joined Girona from Albacete in 2016 when the former was in the second tier of Spanish football. He was instrumental in helping Girona to a first-ever top-flight promotion in his debut season itself, scoring eight goals and providing as many assists.

The 26-year-old attacker bettered that tally with 11 goals across all competitions last term as Girona retained the top-flight status. Portu has also enjoyed a solid 2018/19 campaign in the La Liga as well, mightily impressing with his pace, movement, energy and goal-scoring ability.

A technically gifted and a tactically versatile player, the Spaniard can play in various attacking positions. Portu is an expert passer of the ball, has silky dribbling skills and can pick the right pass in the final third. His dribbling abilities are backed up by his intelligence and while he does tend to lose possession a lot of times, the 26-year-old is a workhorse who does everything to regain the ball.

Nuno Espirito Santo

Portu’s pace and movement are his biggest strengths as he is capable of wreaking havoc against any opposition single-handedly on his day. The Valencia youth product is a very good reader of the game and knows to get into promising positions to score goals and create chances for his teammates.

The Spanish forward’s qualities certainly suit Wolves’ dynamic attacking style of play and he’ll be able to take his game to the next level under the watchful eyes of Nuno. If Wolves manage to land Portu in the summer transfer window, they’ll get a supremely talented player who can take the Premier League by storm.
