Norwich City Opinion: Why the Canaries should sign Takumi Minamino?

Norwich City are in red-hot form at the moment and remain the side to beat in the Championship. They are currently on top of the table, edging Swansea City 1-0 at Carrow Road last Friday.

Even though the Canaries didn’t play well, Daniel Farke will be happy with the result and that’s what is exactly needed for teams chasing promotion.

The Championship is a highly competitive league where every team has quality in their squads. For teams chasing promotion, winning ugly is important and Norwich City did absolutely that against Swansea.

The 1-0 victory last Friday should give them huge confidence heading into the decisive final ten games of the season. The closer they get to promotion, the nerves will start setting and that’s when Farke’s management and leadership skills will be extremely crucial.

But at the back of his mind, Farke will be confident of achieving promotion. The German tactician should start planning for the next season as we enter the business end of the 2018/19 campaign. And one of the vital areas he should look to strengthen this summer is the forward department.

Teemu Pukki has been a revelation for the Canaries this term, with the Finn already bagging 24 goals and seven assists in the league. But beyond Pukki, Norwich have very little firepower up front.

That’s when signing a prolific forward is an absolute necessity for them and Farke should make a move for Red Bull Salzburg star Takumi Minamino.

Takumi Minamino, 24, has been in excellent form for Red Bull Salzburg this campaign. He has 11 goals and five assists in all competitions, with the Japanese exceling under the clever tactician Marco Rose.

A right-footed centre-forward, Minamino has the versatility to play in multiple positions in the attack. The 24-year-old is predominantly a centre-forward by trade but he has also been used as a playmaker behind the striker and on either wing.

The Japanese is known for his clinical finishing, creativity and vision and his tactical intelligence combined with his hardworking and sprightly nature make him such an exciting player.

The former Cerezo Osaka starlet would not only provide cover and competition for Pukki but also bring a different dimension to the Norwich attack.

Conclusion

Norwich definitely need more firepower and cutting edge in their attack to thrive in the Premier League next season and Minamino is certainly a feasible option.

That said, Farke should go all out to sign the Japanese speedster this summer.
