3 youngsters who can benefit from Chelsea’s transfer ban

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have been banned from signing new players for two transfer windows due to a breach of FIFA regulations regarding the transfer of minors.

The same report claims that the Blues have been fined £460,000 for being found guilty of breaching 29 incidences of Article 19, which relates to the transfer of players below the age of 18.

This is not the first time that Chelsea have come under the spotlight for breach of regulations regarding the transfer of minors. The Blues were handed a transfer ban back in 2009 after there was a complaint that youth player Gael Kakuta had joined illegally. (h/t Sky Sports)

Chelsea have invited trouble with their policy of signing young players and selling them off for a massive profit, with the Blues now disallowed from registering any new players for two transfer windows. The west London outfit currently has as many as 41 players out on loan and it is quite clear from that figure as to why Stamford Bridge has been a graveyard for young talent since Roman Abramovich bought the club back in 2003.

However, the recent transfer ban can actually work wonders for some of the youngsters at the club who have impressed on loan for quite a long time. Here are 3 youngsters who might be catapulted to the first-team picture next season as a result of the transfer ban.

1. Tammy Abraham

He has got to be at the top of the list, having impressed on his loan at Aston Villa in the Championship this season. The 21-year-old English international has netted 20 goals from 27 games in the second tier, including 4 man-of-the-match distinctions.

The Blues got Alvaro Morata off their books and signed Gonzalo Higuain on loan till the end of the season but they will not be able to make his stay permanent in the summer due to the transfer ban. Sarri hasn’t shown much confidence in Olivier Giroud either, which might just open the door for the powerful young centre-forward to make his mark in the first-team.

2. Mason Mount

He is certainly not an unfamiliar name to the Chelsea fans, especially after racking up a staggering 14 goals and 9 assists on his loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredivisie last term. The 20-year-old has enjoyed under successful loan spell this season at Derby County in the Championship and the youngster has also earned rave reviews from Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

Mount should be seen as a realistic option on the left of Chelsea’s midfield three by Maurizio Sarri, with the youngster proving his worth in a similar role at Pride Park this term. A technically-gifted and tactically-versatile midfielder blessed with quick feet, vision, high-work rate and quality on the ball, Mount has all the attributes to establish himself as an understudy to Ross Barkley next season as the transfer ban would prevent Chelsea from signing Real Madrid loanee Mateo Kovacic permanently.

3. Ola Aina

Chelsea currently have a couple of immensely-talented right-backs in the likes of Reece James and Ola Aina in their loan army. Both James and Aina have impressed on loan at Wigan Athletic and Torino respectively but the Nigerian international is more experienced and should be considered for first-team duty at Stamford Bridge next season.

The 22-year-old, who was handed his Premier League debut by Antonio Conte a couple of seasons back, has impressed as a wing-back on either side of the pitch in the Serie A this term. Aina has averaged 2 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 0.9 key passes, 1.2 dribbles and has a pass accuracy percentage of 78.6, figures which are quite impressive for a young full-back.

With Cesar Azpilicueta not getting any younger and Davide Zappacosta deemed unreliable by Sarri, Ola Aina might play a substantial role in the first-team next season.
