Why Newcastle United should offer Isaac Hayden a new deal

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United will continue to convince midfielder Isaac Hayden to sign a new contract.

The report also states that Newcastle’s boss Steve Bruce sincerely hopes Hayden extends his stay at St James’ Park. The 25-year-old Hayden is entering the final year of his contract at Newcastle and Bruce believes that the club can convince him to sign a new deal with them.

Hayden has been a regular feature for Bruce’s side this term and has made 31 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions. Only Martin Dubravka, Joelinton, and Miguel Almiron have played more games for Newcastle than Hayden this season, who also has one goal and two assists to his name.

Hayden, meanwhile, is one of the core members of the Newcastle side which won the Championship in 2017. To date, he has played 126 matches for the Magpies and has racked up 5 goals and 10 assists in the process.

Hayden a regular for Newcastle in the last few years

Meanwhile, Bruce’s Newcastle currently sit 13th place in the league table and do not have enough established defensive midfielders in the side other than Hayden.

Apart from Hayden, Newcastle have academy graduate Matty Longstaff in their ranks. Though he has impressed manager Bruce with two goals from his seven league appearances this term, the 20-year-old is still growing in stature and has a lot more to develop.

Also, with talks still ongoing regarding his contract extension, it is absolutely necessary that Newcastle keep the experienced Hayden in their side for a little longer. With 71 Premier League and 55 Championship matches under his belt, Hayden is nothing short of experience.

Hence, Newcastle must do everything at its disposal to extend the stay of a player, who has been vital for them in the past few years.

It is clear that Newcastle lack depth in the defensive midfield role and Hayden has, in the last few years, established that spot for himself.

He has also proved himself with the Magpies, helping them achieve promotion to the top-flight three years ago. Moreover, he is only 25 and has plenty of football left in him. Thus, by all means, Hayden deserves a new deal at St James’ Park.
