LeBron James injury status for NBA season opener isn’t good news for Lakers

LeBron James’ injury status for the upcoming NBA season does not read good news for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers had a disappointing season last year, to say the least. After adding Russell Westbrook to a strong core that already had LeBron James and Anthony Davis, it was thought that they would reach the next level – however, a long-term injury for the latter as well as Westbrook struggling with his form meant the Lakers failed to qualify for the Play-Offs.

Their underperformance last season prompted the Lakers to strengthen their backcourt this season, and they did exactly that as they roped in NBA veteran Patrick Beverley as well as former player Dennis Schröder. However, their injury trouble continues and after Schröder injured his finger – it now seems like LeBron injured himself right before the season starts.

The Lakers will begin the 2022/23 season with a clash against defending champions Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night, and according to the injury report that they have released for the game – it turns out that LeBron James is injured. The Warriors will host the Lakers at the Chase Center, and the four-time champion has been listed as probable due to left foot soreness.

Since James is probable, he will likely be in the starting lineup, but it’s still worth noting that they put him on the injury report.

What does LeBron James’ injury mean for the Lakers?

LeBron’s listed injury is not particularly encouraging for the Lakers.

The four-time NBA Champion is coming off a phenomenal year where he averaged 30.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists per contest. Yet, the Lakers went just 33-49, and missed the NBA Play-Offs for the second time in the last four seasons.

However, if they do want to find their way back into the Play-Offs, they would need a fully fit LeBron James at his very best. Missing out on an all time great who does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon will not be desirable for the Lakers, especially considering their agenda to get back to the Play-Offs.
