The Los Angeles Lakers have been dealt with another blow as another one of their top stars, Dennis Schroder is now expected to miss the beginning of the season due to injury

The Los Angeles Lakers had a disappointing season last year, to say the least. After adding Russell Westbrook to a strong core that already had LeBron James and Anthony Davis, it was thought that they would reach the next level – however, a long-term injury for the latter as well as Westbrook struggling with his form meant the Lakers failed to qualify for the Play-Offs.

Their underperformance last season prompted the Lakers to strengthen their backcourt this season, and they did exactly that as they roped in NBA veteran Patrick Beverley as well as former player Dennis Schröder. However, their injury trouble continues as it turns out that Schröder has now injured himself and will be out for a period ranging up to four weeks.

The German professional basketball player who previously played for the Lakers in the 2020/21 season rejoined the franchise as a free agent – as the Lakers looked to reinforce their ranks in defense. However, reports are suggesting that Schröder has now injured himself and is staring at four weeks out of action, and it wasn’t long before the Lakers confirmed it.

What did the Lakers have to say about Dennis Schröder injury?

The Lakers head coach Darvin Ham has revealed that reserve point guard Dennis Schröder’s thumb injury is going to keep him sidelined longer than was initially anticipated.

While on first analysis it didn’t seem like Schröder would face an extended period on the sidelines, further checks have meant that he is now looking at a bigger period of time. According to NBA Insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, Ham reports that Schroder will need to have surgery to repair his injured thumb ligament, and will be unavailable for nearly 3-4 weeks.

The news comes as a major blow for the Lakers, who begin their season with a depleted roster as they will travel to the Chase Center to face the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.
