The Black Mamba always say Michael Jordan as his elder brother, someone from whom he can always seek inspiration to grow to further heights. So, when he started struggling with knee problem, the Lakers legend approached his ‘elder brother’ for help. That is just when MJ recommended his trainer – Tim Grover to help out Bryant.

Kobe and Michael Jordan worked with the same trainer but at different timelines of their career. There is no denying that Kobe had a similar skill set to Jordan and used to take first-hand lessons from His Airness when the purple and gold locked horns with the Chicago Bulls.

Kobe tuned his game to play like his inspiration – Michael Jordan, but their mentalities were absolutely different. They approached every game to win, but the way they trained for it was unique. This difference was particularly pointed out by Tim Grover, who stressed upon just what separated Kobe with Jordan.

“Kobe needed to know everything,” Grover said“He wanted to know why we did this exercise? Why this many reps? Why this? Why that? Kobe, he was always, ‘Why, why, why?’ Because he was a student. He was learning. Michael was just like, ‘I hired you to do a job. Just get me the end result. I don’t need to know why I’m doing this, what’s going on. But when I do ask, you better have the answer.”

Safe to say, Grover’s words cannot be better. This is perhaps just difference in these two icons of the sport.
