How good is Kansas State University prospect Markquis Nowell and where could he end up?

The NBA Draft is going to be upon us soon, and there has been an incredible amount of hype leading up to the event where franchises will look to rope in some of the best fresh talents to boost their squad depths. While the headlines leading to the draft have been dominated by names such as Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson, not many people know about Markquis Nowell.

Kansas State point guard Markquis Nowell has not been among the names bandied about the most leading up to this summer’s NBA Draft. It’s not due to a lack of performance on the court for the Wildcats. Instead, it’s all about Nowell’s small 5-foot-7 frame. To put this into perspective, Facundo Campazzo was the NBA’s smallest player at 5-foot-10 heading into the 2022-23 season. He was waived after playing just eight games for the Dallas Mavericks. However, Nowell is much more than just his diminutive frame.

Nowell, a Third Team All-American and First Team All-Big 12 performer, has led the Wildcats on an electrifying run in March. While Nowell is one of the shortest players in college basketball, he is averaging 17.1 points, 7.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game this season, filling up the stat sheet on a nightly basis.

Where can Markquis Nowell fit in the NBA?

Without Nowell’s contributions as a scorer and playmaker, K-State would not be where it is now. As impactful as he’s been in college, is there a place for Nowell at the NBA level?

Where can Nowell fit in the NBA?

Though Nowell is 24 and is held back by his 5’8” frame, he is an electrifying playmaker. Considering all his talents, why wouldn’t a team exhaust a second-round pick on the electric young guard? As evidenced by the NBA trade deadline, these selections are seen as a dime a dozen around the NBA.

It would certainly be intriguing to see him learn behind a veteran point guard such as Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry or James Harden of the Philadelphia 76ers.
