MTV Movie Awards 2023: When honoring the best in cinema and television, look no further than MTV’s annual Movie & TV Awards (previously known as the MTV Movie Awards). In 1992, MTV debuted its annual Movie Awards. In 2017, for its 26th edition, the event honoring achievements in cinema and television was rebranded as the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Society Awards, a New York City company, creates the “golden popcorn” statue awarded to the winners.

Strike by Writers Guild of America caused plenty speed-breakers

Due to the continuing strike by the Writers Guild of America, the MTV Movie & TV Awards had to overcome many obstacles this year. Despite the awards event being scheduled to run live on Sunday, the network has stated that they will be airing a pre-taped special due to the strike instead.

“As we carefully navigate how best to deliver the fan-first awards show we envisioned that our team has worked so hard to create, we’re pivoting away from a live event that still enables us to produce a memorable night full of exclusive sneak peeks, irreverent categories our audience has come to expect, and countless moments that will both surprise and delight as we honor the best of film and TV over the past year,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, and entertainment.

Finally, the complete list of MTV Movie & TV Award winners has been released. On Sunday, May 7th, 2023, the annual film and television awards event occurred. Actress Drew Barrymore declined to host the annual ceremony in solidarity with the Writers Guild strike, marking the first time the event had no presenter.
